Not at all what I expected! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this tale of the Wicked Witch before Dorothy landed in Oz. Some liberties are taken, and you need a mind open to a “fantasy” sort of world (such as talking animals). However, I was surprised at the adult nature of the story given that the Broadway show seemed to be marketed to kids. The book is not exactly children’s literature.
