Interesting book. The writing style will, no doubt, bother some; I found it enjoyable. It comes across more like you’re having a conversation with a friend who is telling you the story of her life, looking back, and who continuously gets distracted or who must interrupt herself to tell another story to make the current one make sense. (Given that I know I have a tendency to talk similarly, it did not bother me at all.)
I did not find the story to have a mystery component; I knew all along what the basic fates of the characters were. However, the story itself becomes an interesting comment on science, medical advancement, and how far we might take things—and how deeply we are willing to ignore things. I found the parallel debate over stem-cell research something that continuously crept into my thinking.
In all, though, the story did not have as much depth or excitement or mystery as I would have liked. Still, it was a worthwhile read.
