The East ***

The East is a wonderfully intriguing film that dives deep into ecoterrorism and the independent agencies working against such working behind the scenes—-and that exposes some of that which lives behind the curtain. Part way though, it’s hard to recall or commit to who’re the good guys and who you want to fall. And that elevates this movie from average suspense to actual thriller.

Ellen Page, I adore, and I especially liked that it took me past the movie to figure out where I knew her from. (Juno) The rest of the cast blends nicely…..although the agency lead seems overplayed, and Jason Ritter, who I always smile at, seems underutilized.

Those issues aside, what an interesting story line in these days of mega corporations, wiki-leaks, and the like.

Admittedly, the big screen isn’t a complete necessity for this one, but don’t miss it at the red box or in the red envelope. The subject is definitely worth our time. That the movie entertains and intrigues as well as it generates some thought, well, that’s just bonus.

Staying thoughtful?
