I saw this movie at the end of its run, and perhaps that was best. My friend and I were the only two in the theater. And the laughter coming from me sometimes made the dialogue hard to hear for either of us. What a hoot!
This is the End is a hilarious portrayal of six somewhat famous actors (all playing themselves) who find themselves together during the Apocalypse. Blend in every drug and sex reference of these guys, add a generous dash of self-deprecating humor, layer on a fabulously fun addition of cameos of more actors-as-themselves (my fave, though, is a toss-up between Jason Segal (esp his hilarious commentary about HIMYM) and Paul Rudd (and I hope I never again see Juno, as I couldn’t watch it in the same way)), sprinkle in everything from The Exorcist that makes me *still* hide my face, and you have a laugh-out-loud and snort-worthy movie with enough scream-inducing moments to keep you on your toes with your heart racing toward the end.
I laughed, snorted, and probably even slapped my knee; and I gasped, jumped, and at least twice shouted in surprise and fear. I cringed (a good deal; this *is,* after all, a movie about guys), I shook my head, and I hid my face in my hands. And in the end, I realized this was indeed that kind of movie you could see multiple times and still catch a new, clever witticism. And the very end—-what a delight!
I’m glad I didn’t miss it at the theater. (It has only two more showings here in Jax.) And if it’s still around where you are, yes, this deserves a big screen if for no other reason than this much hilarity deserves that grand scale. Once more—what a hoot!
