Reflective Media Reviews

Her ****

It’s been several weeks since I saw Her. My delay in writing, though, should not reflect a bit on how good this movie was. It was good. And what a surprise of a lot of warmth I found in this quirky little movie.

When I saw the trailers, it felt formulaic. It felt forced. It felt too bizarre and almost comical. What it was, though, was a glimpse into depression, loneliness, and the need for connection, as well as hope and the ability of the human to love. The commentary on our deep desire to be bound to others, to be loved, felt ever-present in the film. In other words, I think this is much less a film about a man falling for his operating system and much more a film about relationships in general. And it’s a good one. It sticks with you long after you leave the theater and slips in and out of thought as you interact with others and look at relationships.

Staying thoughtful?
