The Grand Budapest Hotel *****

At the end of Grand Budapest Hotel, I wanted to clap my hands in delight. Indeed—delight best sums up how I felt about the film. It was a fun, quirky, witty romp along a tale of eccentric antics, fabulously entertaining in spite of the darker thread of the war coming to Europe. Having that pending war as the background did seem to anchor the film in some area of seriousness, even if everything going on around that was simply one amusement after another.

Visually, the film does more each minute than some do in two hours. So much was constantly happening in the film, that I’m sure I missed a great deal. And I have no doubt that I could enjoy watching this one several more times. It entertains. It engages. And it easily provides a brief time out from the rest of all that is going on around us in a way to smile and giggle within.
