The Husband’s Secret (Liane Moriarty) ***

Having finished reading a well-written, dense, deep novel earlier followed by another thought-provoking novel, I sought something lighter, something shorter, something quicker. In The Husband’s Secret, I found those things.

The story takes a bit of time to follow as each chapter early on brings in a new set of characters. I was sure the lives would somehow eventually intersect, but the writing didn’t do quite enough to differentiate among all of these ladies who seemed to be on a path toward something looming around the corner.

The book isn’t likely to change anything or anyone. Although it pesters you for a few moments to contemplate the “what if,” that’s only for a few moments. After reading the final pages, the characters drift away and the story fades into the background. That said, it was an enjoyable read and provided some pleasant time inside a novel. And sometimes, that’s just what I want in a book.
