Horrible Bosses *

If you’ve followed my movie musings for any length of time, you too are surely surprised to find this one on my page. Admittedly, I saw it a few weeks ago, completely forgetting to add it to this list. But I should stay true to my self-imposed guidelines of what I include here (movies seen in the theater or on DVD if released within the last year) and allow it to be added to this album.

Actually I didn’t so much forget to add Horrible Bosses 2 to this list as I forgot the movie. But let me be fair: it’s hard to remember a movie that you sleep most of the way through. Okay, full disclosure: I was ill with a cold complicated by aggravating allergies. And per my nieces, I not only slept much of the movie, I muttered aloud in my sleep. (This does not mean I suddenly excuse the stage-whispered conversations during movies at a theater. I don’t. But I will be a bit more sympathetic to any snoring. wink emoticon ) I cannot imagine, though, that my sleep-talking hurt the dialogue in the movie. And I cannot imagine that had I actually seen HB1, I would have been more engaged with the plot.

Sure, there were some groan- and cringe-worthy chuckle-inducing moments that attempt to pass for humor. I did laugh a little. Jason Batemen is always charming. And Jason Sudeikis likewise makes me smile. But for the most part, only the love of my sister and her family could have gotten me to the theater for the movie. And only that love coupled with being asleep could have prevented me from leaving part way through. And though I might say those were two hours I’ll never get back, it’s really okay: I got some much-needed rest during that time, so it wasn’t time that badly spent.

Staying thoughtful?
