This site contains my thoughts, my perceptions, my reflections about films I’ve seen, books I’ve read, and any other general media musings. I started memorializing these thoughts several years before this blog existed, first with books then with films, so I gathered all of those here for my initial launch.
Regarding films, I typically write about movies I see in the theater (and indeed, I have varied tastes in things on the big screen), but at times, if a DVD is relatively recent and significant to me, I’ll write about that sort of film as well. My general rule is that it must have been in the theater within the past year to be included. (Update 2019: with films now released straight to streaming services, and with those films often now of the same caliber as those on the big screen, the general rule is expanded to include those.)
As for books, the field is as wide as is literature. I tend to read in fits and spurts, and I’m intentionally working on expanding my style of books, both fiction and nonfiction.
As a practice, I do not reveal spoilers or even much of the plot. If I must, I warn early in my writing. And my thoughts come usually a day or so after seeing a film or reading a book; I tend to let everything sit and my perceptions marinate before sharing.
Movies, books, plays, and the like, of course like any other art form, are individual. But whether you agree or disagree, if you too like films and books, I hope you enjoy what I have to say—-at least every so often.
