Having read the book, I was unsure how Ang Lee would be able to depict this story on the screen. But he did an excellent job. Yes, some of the story is a bit different on the screen than it was in the book, but it was just as heartwarming. The movie too leaves the big question just as the book did. Of course, having the foresight to what that question would be, I saw things in the movie I hadn’t noticed while reading—-things that occurred before the revelation occurs in the story. And for that, I feel the movie added to the entire experience of the story.
I may, for the first time really, be sold on computer-generated films.
And I’ll never teach Regina v. Dudley and Stephens in quite the same way, now knowing *this* Richard Parker who was likewise stranded on a boat.
