Salmon Fishing on the Yemen, by its title, does not evoke a “rush to the theater” reaction, eh? But I’ll say it’s certainly worth a Red Box.
The flick is simply a fun, light movie. Emily Blunt brings her charm, and what I noticed most about Ewan McGregor was his breadth as an actor with my having seen him so recently in The Impossible. Kristin Scott Thomas is quite funny as the Brit working in politics. (I’ve since learned her character was the press secretary to the Prime Minister.)
There’s nothing grand in the movie, but it is a fun break from the day—light and fresh with a nice side romantic story—-and a look at the Middle East that is refreshing.
The movie has some Golden Globe nominations, and it’s certainly better than many of films out there, but I’d be surprised if the Academy follows suit.
Bottom line, if you have a couple of hours, it is not a waste of your time.
