Reflective Media Reviews

Frances Ha ****

The summer was full of “coming of age” movies, telling the tales of those turning the page from the teens toward adulthood. But Frances Ha finds the real time of coming of age to adulthood—those years in the late 20s when’s so many truly figure out how to settle into the person they’ve become.

The story is relatively quiet, but to me its complexity rises from that quiet to layer the pieces that help build Frances’s figuring out who she is, why she is, and how to live. I loved the way her story unfolded, bringing those who touch her life in and out, much like I’ve seen friends in my own.

The acting is quiet as well, but also as deep and perfectly reflective as the movie is as a whole.

I’m sure Frances Ha is not for everyone, but it delighted me.
