This book is a collection of short stories, with one storyline making a few repeat appearances over the course of that character’s dating and engagement. The writing is light. It is good writing. I *want* to say that it is funny. But I just cannot bring myself to do so.
I did laugh at the narratives sometimes. I am sure I even chuckled out loud a time or two. But the nature of the book—many tales of several females—eventually wore me down. So many of these tales involve infidelity. And its treatment felt flippant. Too light. Too normal. Too—too accepted.
Don’t get me wrong: Sure, I understand that such exists. And maybe it is more prevalent that I want to believe. But to read tale after tale of relationships with no trust and with cheating—that repeated crushing statement about modern relationships—-it put a cloud on the writing. This cloud hangs heavy over the book, so in spite of good writing, the book falls low on my list of recommended reading.
